Commodities Data Scientist Internship (Iron Ore & Steel)

At Tivlon Technologies, we aim to offer our clients the best insights, trends and predictive models to help them make more informed and accurate decisions for their investments in commodities. With over 10 years of consulting and industry experience, we know what are the unique challenges faced by commodity traders and which direction to take when analyzing the market.

This makes supply and purchase agreements inherently risky. Past price forecasts were often hit-or-miss. They relied on general trends, together with fundamental analysis ‘feeling’ and technical analysis of price charts. Results were often undependable.

Now, new technologies of big data collection and management with big data analytics allow forecasts to be significantly more accurate. Tivlon Technologies brings together detailed commodity market knowledge and deep big data analytics expertise. We help you see further into the short and medium-term future and make decisions based on analytics, not just opinion.

You’ll work with Mr. Darren Toh who is a ferrous metals trader for 10 years. Darren graduated with an Information System Management degree from Singapore Management University. He started as a junior iron ore trader in Stemcor Singapore and was transfer to Hong Kong to manage their Global Iron Ore Trading portfolio. Darren was invited by Gunvor Singapore to setup their iron ore desk in 2014 and manage more than 60 million tonnes of physical and derivatives trading volume per annum. The growing importance of data science and artificial intelligence in the commodities industry made Darren founded Tivlon Technologies in 2018. The commodity trading subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation have engaged Tivlon Technologies in their ferrous raw material trading for China and Asean.

Tivlon Technologies fosters innovation driven by analytics, design thinking, mobile and social by developing new products/services and integrating them into our client work. It is helping to shift our model toward asset-based consulting and is a foundation for – and expands our investment in – our entrepreneurial culture.
